Treasure Boxes support for Ukrainian new arrivals in South Australia

Updated 6 April 2022

Treasure Boxes is humbled to be able to support Adelaide’s Ukrainian community, ensuring our new arrivals receive childcare essentials.

This is a coordinated effort between SLAVA Ukrainian Cultural Centre, Association of Ukrainians in SA, AMES and local community members.

Treasure Boxes supports vulnerable babies, children, and teens experiencing disadvantage in South Australia including refugee arrivals – like our new community members from the Ukraine – who need help accessing childcare essentials to safely care for their children.

Please note that Treasure Boxes is not in direct contact with any people arriving from Ukraine.

What can I donate for Ukraine refugees?

metroCARDs: One of the most pressing needs for many Ukraine refugees in Adelaide is access to our public transport system to travel to school, childcare or English classes. Many families are residing with family members but do not have access to a car, so they must use public transport. A single trip is $2.80 for one person, which means that the costs for everyone in one family to travel every day is unaffordable.

The Ukrainian Cultural Centre needs donations of $25 Adelaide metroCARDs so people can get to where they need to go.

You can buy an Adelaide metroCARD and deliver it to our address — we will pass them to the Ukrainian Cultural Centre.

What items can I donate to Treasure Boxes?

Click here for a full list of items we rehome.

All pre-loved donations must be in good, clean working condition and less than 10 years old.

Our service is currently low on the following items:

  • Baby car seats/capsules
  • Change tables
  • Cots and Bassinets
  • Highchairs
  • Prams (single and double)
  • Safety gates
  • Toddler beds

Your donations ensure that our service can continue to provide the essentials to all vulnerable children in South Australia.

How is Treasure Boxes supporting the Ukraine community in Adelaide?

We’re collaborating with SLAVA Ukrainian Cultural Centre, Association of Ukrainians in SA and AMES to assist new arrivals from Ukraine.

Treasure Boxes has the infrastructure in place to support the process of sorting and packing donated items, and ensuring these packages get to where they’re needed quickly. Our role is to facilitate this process for all babies, children and teens that arrive without the vital essentials they need.

Where can I donate items?

You can book in your donation drop-off through our calendar! This helps us plan our day, meaning we can get items out to families quickly.

Our warehouse is located at Warehouse 6, 1-5 De Laine Avenue Edwardstown SA 5039.

We are open to donations from 10am to 2pm Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. You can send items through the post if you don’t live locally.

Your donations ensure that our service can continue to provide the essentials to all vulnerable children in South Australia.

Where can I donate kids’ clothes?

We rehome baby and kids’ clothes from newborn sizes to 18 years old. Treasure Boxes does not rehome adult clothing. Your donations ensure that our service can continue to provide the essentials to all vulnerable children in South Australia.

I would like to make a financial donation.

Treasure Boxes is providing support for our new Ukraine families with all the items they need for their children without charge to the family. The costs of providing this service comes from our Crisis Relief Fund. We want to ensure that new arrival families have everything they need to safely care for their babies and children – especially after the horrors that they have been through over the last few weeks.

We know that many of the children that have arrived in Adelaide are suffering from long-standing trauma and need comfort items which we are pleased to be able to provide for them. Your support will ensure that these needs, and the needs of all vulnerable kids and families in SA, can continue to be met by our Crisis Relief Fund.

Funds donated through our website will ensure we can continue to be here for all vulnerable South Australian children when they need our support.

Can I volunteer?
