Treasure Boxes response for South Australia’s Afghanistan arrivals

Treasure Boxes is humbled to have been able to support the process of ensuring our newest South Australian arrivals from Afghanistan have received childcare and toiletry essentials.

This has been a huge, coordinated effort from the South Australian community – specifically AMES Adelaide, The Welcoming Centre, Multicultural Youth SA and our local Afghanistan community members.

Update 16/9/21: We are fortunate to have been able to provide everything that was requested for these families upon their arrival. Your item donations will ensure that we can not only respond to the need of our newest community members, but that our service can continue to provide the essentials to all families and caregivers in South Australia.

For those who are only just hearing of Treasure Boxes – our service not only supports new arrivals (from Afghanistan and elsewhere), but also any baby, kid, teen, parent or caregiver in South Australia who needs help securing the childcare essentials.

I would like to make a financial donation

Any funds donated through our website support our service as a whole, ensuring we can continue to be here for all South Australians.

Here’s an article by The Conversation on other ways you can help, Australia-wide.

Are you working with the Afghan community directly?

We’re aware that the current situation is a very sensitive one that affects many members of our South Australian community, especially those from, or with family in, Afghanistan.

Treasure Boxes has the infrastructure in place to support this process of sorting and packing donated items, and getting these packages to where they’re needed, when they’re needed. Our role in this has become one of facilitating this process to happen, because we are fortunate to have the resources to do so. We are extremely grateful to have established connections with the Afghanistan community here in South Australia which we aim to continue growing into the future. We are also working directly with agencies whose focus is on supporting the new members of our community – specifically AMES and Multicultural Youth SA.

When will I receive a response to my email/DM/message/text?

For updates as they happen, please follow us on Facebook/Instagram – we will post on our main feed or on our stories.

We are trying our best to keep up with your messages! Please note that our office hours are 10am – 2pm Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. If you haven’t received a response in 24 hours, please follow up with us as it may have been missed accidentally.

I have another question – who can I ask?

The best way to get in touch with us is via email/social media. We do have a phoneline, however this is only staffed during office hours.
