Threaded with Love: Mary, Bob & 3000 Acts of Kindness

If you’ve ever received a beautifully handmade pram liner, a snug little quilt, or a festive Christmas stocking from Treasure Boxes, chances are it came from the talented hands of Mary Sitters – tailor extraordinaire, long-time volunteer, and all-round treasure herself.

Mary first stitched her way into the Treasure Boxes family almost a decade ago, driven purely by a heartfelt desire to give back. Grateful for the health and happiness of her own family, Mary wanted to help children who weren’t as lucky – and she did it the only way she knew how: with needle, thread, and a heart full of compassion.

Since then, she’s lovingly handmade almost 3,000 essential items for children and families in crisis – everything from spit cloths to toiletry bags, change mats to cosy blankets. Each one crafted with care, creativity, and just a little sparkle of Mary-magic.

But this heartwarming story doesn’t end at the sewing machine. Mary’s husband Bob, a fixer-upper and Jack of all trades (or as we like to call him, our go-to “Bob the Builder”), rolled up his sleeves right alongside her. As the District Chair for Kiwanis Children’s Fund in Australia and the Kiwanis Club of Glenelg, Bob’s generosity introduced him to the work of Treasure Boxes – and not long after, both he and Mary were knee-deep in fabric, tools, and goodwill.

Ten years on, the dynamic duo are still at it – still turning up, still giving generously, and still making an extraordinary difference. They are, quite literally, stitched into the fabric of our story – and we couldn’t be more grateful.

Mary and Bob, thank you for showing us what love in action really looks like.
